Our Lady Queen of the World
The Knights of Columbus was founded by Venerable Servant of God Father Michael J. McGivney, a New Haven parish priest, in 1882. The organization was formed to provide charitable outreach and care for the financial well-being of Catholic families, focusing on the protection of widows and orphans, and on strengthening the faith of its members. It has grown into the world’s largest lay Catholic organization, with more than 1.8 million members throughout North and Central America, the Philippines, the Caribbean and Europe. The nearly 15,000 Knights of Columbus councils last year supported a countless number of charitable organizations by donating more than $170 million and contributing 70 million hours of service.
Locally, the Knights are active members of our parish family (Our Lady Queen of the World) and have the full support of our priests. The Knights stand ready to assist in any way they can to improve the quality of life for the marginalized in our midst, the widows and orphans of brother Knights, the developmentally and physically challenged, the elderly, and the poor.
The Knights sponsor and organize events to celebrate family life such as Parish Picnics, Advent Pasta Lunch, Pancake Sunday and other events, like Dinner Dances, offer married couples a night away from their families to celebrate their married life. The Knights will continue to introduce new programs to our parish community as we build and strengthen the ties that bind us – “In service to one. In service to all.”
To the man who joins his family with ours, we offer
- Leadership development
- An opportunity to be of service in a structured way
- Friendship and fellowship with like-minded men
- A chance to grow in their faith
- An optional insurance program as a fraternal benefit
- But most of all – The experience of a lifetime
